I visited this restaurant on Valentine’s Day and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience from start to finish. (After my wife insisted we try this restaurant canceling other fine dining restaurants for this horrendous experience)
We were initially seated in a cramped corner at what was honestly a dirty table, with no proper shelter or heating, which was especially uncomfortable given the occasion. When I politely asked to be reseated, the hostess responded unprofessionally, smirking and laughing while suggesting that the issue was simply my “preference.” This response felt dismissive and disrespectful.
Our waiter approached us already acknowledging that the evening felt “spoiled,” which reflected how poor the initial experience had been. After waiting nearly an half an hour, we were eventually moved to another table, but by then the damage to the evening had already been done.
The starters took an excessive amount of time to arrive and were poorly prepared (Gave me food poisoning the very next day). Throughout the evening, I noticed the manager visiting multiple tables but never once checking in on ours, despite the clear issues we experienced. (Clearly avoiding our table)
To be fair, the the steak main was good, lamb main average and dessert were good, which shows that the kitchen has potential. However, service and customer experience are just as important, and unfortunately this fell far below expectations.
I left feeling uncomfortable and honestly disappointed. The experience gave me the impression that we were treated differently. (Color) (Absolute shocking I had to even include mandatory service charge to the evening)

Casual dining with a wide selection on the reasonably menu. Small out door setting which is quite nice. Josh the waiter was efficient and friendly. The braised lamb was well presented and made a delicious meal. No warning about the kitchen closing so beware!

Very atmospheric place — the interior is incredible and immerses you in the Victorian era. The staff is friendly, food is delicious, and service is excellent. We had lunch with a large group and loved this place so much, so we came back for dinner again before leaving. Highly recommended!

The food here was outstanding. I ordered the ostrich which had this subtle rosemary flavour without the astringency (order the sauce on the side for the perfect flavour). It came with mash that had this sweet flavour with a hint of citrus. It was so good that we ordered a second one.
My dad had the fillet special which came with this abhorrently delicious truffle sauce.
Sat outside but got a glimpse of
the inside on the way to the toilet and is was incredible. So beautiful and amazingly decorated.
Our sever James was wonderful and very welcoming and friendly and the music playing contributed greatly to the already divine atmosphere. My dad was in a constant repetition of wows all night. We’ve gone to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia and he said that this was the best meal out of the entire trip.
An incredible way to end the trip just before the long flight home.
Would take the 13hr flight here just for the food.

We have visited Kloof Street House twice, and overall it is a wonderful place that we would recommend.
On the plus side, the garden and interiors are absolutely beautiful — very atmospheric and stylish. Making a reservation through the website was easy, and the email communication was excellent, with very quick and helpful responses. The food was delicious on both visits, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
The only downside was our New Year’s Eve experience. We had reserved a table and paid for a package that included a show, dinner, and a retro transfer to Asoka. Unfortunately, we only received the dinner. While the food was outstanding and our waitress was lovely, we did not see any show and did not receive the transfer, which was a bit disappointing.
